Mexicana is the largest airline in Mexico and being founded by a couple of Americans in 1921 and this makes it one of the oldest airlines in the world. It is the largest airline of Mexico, and is the country's flag carrier. Its full name is
Compañía Mexicana de Aviación, S.A. de C.V. Its routes are mainly short to medium haul using a mainly Airbus fleet of A319 and A320's and a modest long haul fleet of Boeing 767s. One of its main local competitors is AeroMexico.
Mexicana's airline head offfice and base is Benito Juárez International Airport (MEX), Mexico City, Distrito Federal and that is also the location of its engineering HQ and maintenance facilities. Other major hubs are Guadalajara International Airport, Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla Airport, and Cancún International Airport.
The company's Frequent flier program is called MexicanaGo, and it is a member of the Oneworld airline alliance, one of the big three such alliances. Mexicana joined Oneworld in October 2009, switching from the Star Alliance. Such switching of alliances is not that common. Being one of the majors makes its fare structure not so conducive to cheap tickets but such flights are around due to the intense competition that there is in the airline industry. The company's Member lounge is called the Elite Lounge.

Are they safe?
The airline has a very good safety record. They have not had a fatal accident since 1986. In early 1986, Flight MX940, a Boeing 727 was flying to Puerto Vallarta when an onboard fire began and it crashed into rugged, mountainous terrain in Western Mexico. There were no survivors.
